According to the official Emirates News agency WAM, Chairperson of the Emirates Business Women Council and of the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council Fatima Al Jaber said that women could prove their capability for economic participation as a result of the economic renaissance in the country.

The role of the working woman in the United Arab Emirates has grown considerably recently and has become fundamental factor towards UAE’s growth, particularly in the trade and investment fields, despite all the difficult circumstances that have hampered the development of businesswomen and their participation in certain works that have been exclusively done by men only, according to the Emirates Business Women Council.

Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, chairwoman of the Marriage Fund said women now account for 66 per cent of the government workforce, with 30 per cent in senior positions and involved in decision-making. Fifteen per cent are in technical jobs, medicine, nursing and pharmacy, while another 15 per cent are in the Armed Forces, customs and police.

According to a 2010 PricewaterhouseCoopers report, women form 77 per cent of students in higher education, the highest proportion in the world.
