An Israeli air strike killed two Palestinian teens near the central Gaza Strip early on Tuesday, a Palestinian medical official said, following a series of raids on Gaza.
Medics and rescue teams searched for the two teens, near the border, for two hours before locating their bodies under the rubble, according to imemc.org.
Six Palestinians were killed by Israeli army fire in the last 24 hours.
The two teenagers were identified as Mohammad Bassam Abu M’eleq, and Youssef At-Tilnaby; both 16 years old, according to imemc.org.
Two men were earlier reported as injured in the strike. The Israeli military confirmed hitting what it called a “terrorist squad identified handling an explosive device” near the security fence in the central Gaza Strip, Al Arabiya reported.
Meanwhile, Hamas’ military wing has claimed responsibility for firing four rockets at an Israeli military base in Zikim, north of Gaza. An Israeli military spokesman said three rockets hit the Hof Ashkelon regional council, without causing damage or injuries.
Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, said it fired the rockets in response to “Israel’s crimes”, according to AFP.
Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said one of those killed was a member of their group.
On Monday, Israeli aircraft killed four Palestinians in two raids over the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun and wounded at least three, Palestinian medics said.
Monday’s strikes came hours after gunmen mounted an early morning deadly ambush along Israel’s border with Egypt, killing an Israeli civilian construction worker. Two of the gunmen were shot dead by Israeli troops.
The army stated that a Palestinian armed group, on the Egyptian side of the border, fired an RPG at the army before engaging in an automatic fire attack.
