The evening flowed as usual, sparkling in a blast of beauty and lights.

Last night, The Academy Awards, officially re-named The Oscars on February 20, 2013, set the level of excellence of cinematic achievements for this year.

The evening was grand as only the Academy Awards know how to be, but the moments that topped everything else were the acceptance speeches. First of all Ben Affleck’s acceptance speech, as Argo won in the category of best picture. Ben was rambling, in a feast of happiness and sense of achievement totally deserved.

The next sweet touch was given to the audience by Adele’s speech as Skyfall won in the category of best song; she ended up in tears, and finally thanked “her man” as a final touch. However, she was almost topped by Anne Hathaway, winner for best supporting actress for Les Miserables, who took her time on the podium but was very genuine and sweet when she thanked co-star Hugh Jackman.

And of course, everybody ended up talking about Jennifer Lawrence, more because she fell on her face on the way to accepting her award for best actress in a leading role for Silver Linings Playbook, than for her acceptance speech in which she admitted forgetting to thank Mr. Harvey Weinstein, the producer.

As expected, Daniel Day-Lewis won as best actor for his interpretation of Lincoln. The award for direction went to Ang Lee for Life of Pi, as well as the awards in cinematography which was collected by Claudio Miranda; and also Visual Effect.

The award for adapted screenplay went to Argo written by Chris Terrio, and the award for original screenplay went to Django Unchained written by Quentin Tarantino.

In the category of foreign language film, the winner was Amour from Austria; a story about the final months of a retired music teacher and her husband of sixty years, who struggle with the effects of two strokes.

In the category of documentary feature the award went to Searching for Sugar Man by Malik Bendjelloul and Simon Chinn; a documentary about the truth behind the disappearance of a singer-songwriter known as Rodriguez, who dropped out of sight but attracted a cult following in South Africa.

Finally, in the category of animated feature film the winner was Brave; and for the short animated category film, the one to receive the award was the expected one, Paperman.

The evening flowed as usual, precise and entertaining. Productions are already on their way, and soon we will be guessing who the winner is, again.
