The Boston Globe, citing an official with knowledge of the investigation, reported that one suspect in Boston’s Marathon bombings had been captured, while another remains on the loose in Watertown after exchange of gunfire with police officers.

A violent incident erupted in Watertown late Thursday night and early Friday morning when shooting killed a police officer.

Police descended on a vehicle in the neighbouring Watertown community later in the evening amid reports of gunfire and explosions, the ABC TV station in Boston reported.

The FBI has not confirmed a connection between the events in Watertown to the twin explosions at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The FBI had earlier released images and videos of two men wanted as key suspects in connection to the marathon bombing that killed three people and left at least 170 people injured.

The FBI has appealed for the public’s help in their capture.

Meanwhile, President Obama warned on Thursday that “whichever terrorists are behind the attack on Monday picked the wrong city as a target, because Boston will not be terrorized or intimidated.”

Egypt Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the FJP, denounced the Marathon bombings on Tuesday and offered sincere condolences to victims’ families.

“ The FJP offers heartfelt sympathies and solemn condolences to the American people and the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. Islamic Sharia (law), accepted by the FJP as a framework of reference, strongly condemns attacks on civilians and terrorizing innocent people, regardless of their religion, race, color or sex,” FJP said in a statement on its website.

“The heinous attacks in Boston today highlight the need for the international community to unite in order to achieve justice and a decent life for all peoples and communities to ensure non-recurrence of such violent and tragic crimes.”

The king of Saudi Arabia also condemned the Boston Marathon bombings, saying no religion or morals would condone such an attack, the Associated Press reported.

King Abdullah said the perpetrators of such “heinous terrorist acts” are “enemies of any humane considerations.” He said the perpetrators represent only themselves.

Saudi Ambassador Al-Jubeir in Washington expressed confidence that the relevant authorities will bring those responsible for this crime to justice.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a Saudi embassy official said Saudis have not been informed by the U.S. of any Saudi who is considered a person of interest in the Boston Marathon bombings. The official confirmed that a Saudi woman, who was watching the race with her husband and child, was injured.

US President Barack Obama said at a brief news conference on Tuesday that investigators had yet to find a culprit for the two bombings at Monday’s Boston that killed three people and injured 176.

The explosions took place about 10 seconds and about 90 meters apart, knocking spectators and at least one runner off their feet.

Speaking at a ceremony at UN Headquarters in New York commemorating the 19th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide, Mr. Ban said that although reports on the incident were still coming in, it was already known that there are dead and wounded.

“As more details emerge I am sure we will return to this with a more formal statement,” he added, expressing his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishing those wounded a speedy recovery. “But for now I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with everyone in Boston.”

President Obama made a statement about yesterday’s explosions at the Boston Marathon. Obama explained that he had been briefed by his Homeland Security team, who are continuing to monitor the situation as it unfolds, and had “directed the full resources of the federal government to help state and local authorities protect our people, increase security around the United States as necessary, and investigate what happened.”

“The American people will say a prayer for Boston tonight,” he said. “And Michelle and I send our deepest thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims in the wake of this senseless loss.”

Yesterday’s statement in full: “We still do not know who did this or why. And people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts. But make no mistake — we will get to the bottom of this. And we will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.

Today is a holiday in Massachusetts — Patriots’ Day. It’s a day that celebrates the free and fiercely independent spirit that this great American city of Boston has reflected from the earliest days of our nation. And it’s a day that draws the world to Boston’s streets in a spirit of friendly competition. Boston is a tough and resilient town. So are its people. And as they do, the American people will be with them every single step of the way.
